After a long flight from NY I arrived in Vina del Mar, Chile on April Fools Day. Hard to believe that was almost two months ago. As I write my first and last journal entry, I have only three days until I'm headed back home. I'm not much of a blogger, but I thought I owed the community at least one entry, and hopefully you all get some …

Survived my second week! And it sure was memorable... Tuesday was an amazing day. The same group of us who went to the vineyard last week took a drive up north a little to a little fishing village called Horcón.  What people in Viña have to say about Horcón is: Siiii, Horcon, muchos hippies!!  We stepped out of the car and my first impression was that we stuck out …

Hi everyone! So it's been a week, and it has flown by! I've been busy every day and sleeping like a rock every night- I think being in a new place will do that to you... I arrived in VIña del Mar around 6am on Saturday, after an 18+ hour trek from Boston. After dozing for a couple of hours, I got up and met Luka, my housemate, compañero de casa, and we …

Monday: I could not get out of my apartment. The door was stuck, so I had to skip my internship. I emailed our maintenance guy, and he fixed it, but it still is slightly difficult. We were able to get out to go to lunch at some friends' house, though. It was delicious homemade Chilean food! It's called casuela, and is a stew-like thing. It had an entire chicken leg …

Sunday: Went to Valparaiso to sightsee, and it was wonderful! First, we went to the port and went on a boat tour. It was only $4 btw for a tour. It was pretty fun, even though the guide did talk very fast and we had no idea what he was talking about. We saw some seals too! Then we went to the souvenir stalls, and I got some alpaca fur …

Sunday and Monday: weekend and a holiday, so I stayed in. It felt like I did nothing, but actually I did a lot of work on my med school application. Nothing too exciting. Tuesday: My first day of my internship! I was very nervous when I left. However, I was able to get there without any hiccups and the people were very nice. I felt like an idiot most of the …

Monday: As I said in my last journal entry, the bus ride was not very fun. It was stinky and the people were grumpy. Rachel then lost her wallet on the bus. We couldn't do much about it then, so we went to class in the morning. After class, we went to the bus station to figure out how to find it again, and it was pouring! We had no …

Sunday: we went to the national park, which is about an hour and a half outside Vina. It was my first time on a metro (excluding that time in DC with my parents when I didn't really know what was going on.), and it was pretty cool. We went on this stereotypical bus up the mountain after that, and then had to walk a mile to get to the park. …

Saturday: got in the country and moved into my apartment. I admit I was very homesick. This was partly because the heat was off (so it was massivly different from the 90 degree weather I had at home), and partly because of the part of town we tried to explore. My roommate and I were looking for a bank so we could buy food, but we accidently headed into the …

Long plane ride was long. But I'm here now! Yay! I can already tell that Chile is massively different from all my travels so far (which has included the US and Honduras, which isn't much, but at least it's something). For instance, it's stinking cold here! That may be because I need to figure out how to set up the space heater, but it's in the 30s (Farenheit). It's a …
